The Galley | The Old Customs House Gallery
Our Gallery was established in the historical building The Old Customs
House The waterfront and docks once served government Customs Agents,
and cargo inspectors, who investigated the freighters bringing goods
into the copper mining town of Britannia Beach.
For over 20 years Milada Dohnalek
(1919 – 2006) and two of her four children took care of the gallery
which with the time changed into the gift store
Milada offered to the tourists
traveling highway 99 her sweaters, hats, felt, but also ceramics and
canvases with bouquets of flowers full of folk flavour of Czech Republic,
where she was born. Michael Dohnalek has been famous for his photos
with an Anvil Island taken through kitchen window and Kathy Dohnalek
for her cooper jewellery with a beach glass . We still carry some of
native art and silver jewellery with semiprecious stones which they
collected.
